JPEF Annual Global Diabetes Convention 2023 Report
Introduction:
The Jothydev’s Professional Education Forum (JPEF) Annual Global Diabetes Convention 2023 was held from 7th to 9th July 2023 at the Uday Samudra Hotel in Kovalam, Trivandrum. The convention aimed to bring together experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals in the field of diabetes to share knowledge, discuss advancements, and foster collaboration. This report summarizes the key highlights and activities of the three-day convention. The conference was inaugurated by the Finance Minister Shri. K. N Balagopal. The keynote address was given by Minister of Education Shri. V. Sivankutty. Other esteemed medical professionals present at the event were Dr.Eberhard Standl (Germany), Dr.B.M Makkar (RSSDI President), Dr.Banshi Saboo, (Chairman elect, International Diabetes Federation l, South-East Asia), Dr.Ashok Kumar Das, (Chief advisor JPEF), Dr.V.Mohanan Nair (IMA, AMS, Nemom), and Dr.K K Manojan (Director, SGMC).

Program Overview:
The convention featured a comprehensive program spread across four halls: Insulin Hall, Gliflozin Hall, Gliptin Hall, and GLP Hall. The program included orations, workshops, abstract presentations, competitions, and stalls focused on physical activity and pharmaceutical exhibits. The halls were tightly packed on all days irrespective of time.

Attendance:
The convention witnessed an overwhelming response, with 1,600 registrations and a total participation of 1,233 attendees.
Accommodation:
The accommodation was arranged at multiple hotels, including Uday Samudra(UDS), Taj, Hilton, Leela, Sagara, Rockholm, Turtle on the Beach and Kingsway ensuring convenient options for all participants. All the faculty members were accommodated in UDS.
Sessions:
The event is packed with a diverse range of activities, including 147 lectures, 15 symposiums, 3 orations, 9 workshops, 3 pre-registered workshops, 1 talk show, 2 quiz shows, and 2 Zumba sessions.
P.Kesavadev JPEF Young Researcher Award:
The P.Kesavadev JPEF Young Researcher Award recognized the outstanding work of young researchers in the field of diabetes. Ten abstracts and CVs were received for this award, and the winner was Ms. Madhurima Basu from West Bengal for her research on RNA proteins in diabetic and non-diabetic kidney disease. She was awarded a citation and a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-

Oration Sessions:
Three distinguished orations took place during the convention, namely the Kesavadev Oration, V.C Mathew Roy Memorial Oration, and RSSDI Presidential Oration. These sessions provided valuable insights into various aspects of diabetes research and management.
Pre-Registered Workshops:
Three workshops were offered to pre-registered participants, all of which were fully booked:
- Diabetes Educator Workshop
- Automated Insulin Delivery Workshop
- Continuous Glucose Monitoring Workshop

Abstract Presentations:
A total of 39 abstracts were received, out of which 23 were selected for oral presentations, and 16 were chosen for poster presentations. All the abstracts will be published in the International Journal of Diabetes and Technology's (IJDT) Supplementary Issue. The best presentations were awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes for posters and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th prizes for oral presentations. The winners received certificates and cash prizes.

Fun Challenges and Competitions:
To engage participants and foster a spirit of competition, several challenges and competitions were organized during the convention.
The highlights include:
- Quizzes: Two quizzes were conducted, with 20 participants competing for a spot in the final round. Ten participants were screened, and three winners were selected from each quiz. The winners received certificates and trophies.
- Dart Attack: Participants aimed to answer questions displayed by throwing darts. Three winners were chosen based on accuracy, and they received trophies as recognition.
- Drawbetes: Participants were invited to create artwork based on the theme "Diabetes Goes Digital." Three winners were selected based on creativity, and they were awarded trophies.
- Zumba Sessions: Two invigorating Zumba sessions were organized during the convention, with enthusiastic participation from attendees. The sessions were highly appreciated and contributed to the overall positive and energetic atmosphere.
Stall for Physical Activity:
A dedicated stall promoting physical activity and its benefits in diabetes management was set up. It provided information, resources, and demonstrations to encourage attendees to adopt an active lifestyle.
Pharma Stalls and Exhibits:
Pharmaceutical companies showcased their products and services at stalls located in the lobby, near the Insulin Hall, and in the designated stall area. The stalls provided an opportunity for participants to learn about the latest advancements in diabetes care and interact with industry representatives.
Conclusion:
The JPEF Annual Global Diabetes Convention 2023 proved to be a resounding success, with a significant number of registrations, house full halls, engaging oration sessions, workshops, abstract presentations, and exciting competitions. The convention facilitated knowledge exchange, networking, and collaboration among diabetes experts and healthcare professionals.
