1. P.KESAVADEV JPEF AWARD

for the Best Young Researcher in Diabetes

The award is instituted with an aim to foster diabetes research in India and carries a cash prize of INR 100,000, a gold medal, citation and a travel grant.

  1. 1. The award will be for a young researcher and for the original work unpublished at the time of submission.
  2. 2. The Award will carry a cash prize of Rs.100,000, gold medal, citation and travel grant.
  3. 3. He/she should be aged 40 years or less and can be from any speciality of medicine or a basic scientist or from any other branch of science or nutrition. The research should contribute to the science of diabetes care, treatment of complications or prevention.
  4. 4. Research should be original, entirely done in India and should enrich or contribute to original diabetes research in India.
  5. 5. Final decision will be taken by the Kesavadev JPEF Award Committee members after intense scrutiny of all applications.

2. JPEF STALWART PHYSICIAN AWARD

The JPEF Stalwart Award was instituted in the year 2018 and is presented to a physician in recognition of his/her contribution in the field of diabetes. The award recognizes the person's extraordinary achievement and dedication to the scientific community.

3. JPEF BEST ORAL PRESENTATION AWARD

The JPEF Best Oral Presentation Award is given each year to the best oral presentations at the JPEF Annual Global Convention. The aim of the award is to support activities in the field of diabetes and technology. Selected abstracts are published in the International Journal of Diabetes and Technology (IJDT) since 2021.


1. The criteria for this award include excellent scientific merit, well written, excellent discussion, and importance to association members.
2. The oral presentation is evaluated based on the 3-5 minutes brief presentation given.
3. The final decision will be taken by the JPEF Award Committee members after intense scrutiny of all presentations.

Every year Best Poster Award is presented to the most accomplished posters at the JPEF Annual Global Convention. The poster committee evaluates all posters on their design, clarity of the presentation - both of the poster and also when talking to the presenter - and their scientific content.

2. The oral presentation is evaluated based on the 3-5 minutes brief presentation given.

5. JPEF-USV Tech Awards

Covid times have been very hard for doctors across the world. Diabetes has been recognised as one of the major reasons for severity and death in Covid. There are 1000s of doctors across the country who were successful in using technologies such as telemedicine, education via youtube, Facebook, remote glucose monitoring, virtual patient care etc which helped in saving the lives of millions. We have identified one dozen young doctors from across the country for the JPEF-USV Diabetes Tech Innovation Award for using technologies for the care of education.


Dr.Amit Gupta
Dr.Amit Gupta is using technology for management of diabetes in all aspects. He is co-founder of D-tech and he was the organising chair of the first world congress of diabetes technology. He has keen interest in technology and is actively promoting its use among HCPs as well as patients.

Dr.Bharat Saboo
Dr.Bharat Saboo uses whatsapp as a tool to improve patient outcomes in terms of insulin compliance, follow ups and better glucose control. The data presented was well applauded at EASD, ADA and ESE.

Dr.Rakesh Parikh
In addition to using various EMRs and softwares, Dr.Rakesh Parikh has also been using social media platforms for public awareness and patient education. Dr.Parikh was involved in planning and execution of RSSDI’s Defeat Diabetes Campaign. He was also instrumental in the "One Nation, One Day, One Million Tests", an event that has made a word record. Dr.Parikh was the program chair for DTechCon, which was the first Indian conference dedicated to Diabetes and Technology. He is also helping several startups in the field as a mentor and advisor.

Dr.Dhruvi Hasnani
She has key role at The Rudraksha institute of medical sciences try to incorporate individualized tech support to people with diabetes as well as support other Health care Professionals to incorporate the same through a hub spoke model in their own practices. They have named this HCP tech support initiative as "D Connect"! It is the program Healthcare professionals using telemedicine and tele-education.

Dr.Prasanth Sankar
He pioneered the use of flash glucose monitoring in Pathanamthitta ever since its introduction in the country.Instrumental in convincing patients with diabetes on the importance of glucometer use and shifting the focus from lab based monitoring to SMBG in nearly all patients. Dr Prasanth's Diabetes Circle is a Facebook Channel since 2015, with more than 6k followers, consistently providing latest and useful information to public and HCPs on various aspects of diabetes. He provides regular health updates for public and Healthcare professionals through mobile based platforms. He also initiated the use of telehealth consultation in hospital for patients during covid pandemic and now extended the service to patients in different parts of the country and abroad. He is in charge of the social media handle of RSSDI kerala chapter with two YouTube channels - RSSDI KERALA for HCPs and DIABETES KERALA for public.

Dr.Hossam Arafa Ghazi
In addition to getting certified to be expert with dealing with insulin pumps and CGM, Dr.Hossam Arafa Ghazi published the first data in Egypt about the use of Freestyle Libre Pro and its clinical utility among patients with type 1 diabetes. He also established a team for telemedicine for patients with diabetes in the period of Covid-19.

Dr.Om J Lakhani
With keen interest and expertise in the fields of Technology and Endocrinology(Technocrinology), Dr.Om J Lakhani is the founder of Mellitus Health Tech which has developed and released several apps like "Notes in Endocrinology App", "Centurion Insulin App" and "Hypothyroidism in pregnancy App". He has also developed a state of art In-hospital hyperglycemia system.

Dr.Asha Ashik
Instrumental in providing patient education programs to patients effectively via online platforms at the time of covid. Effectively utilizing the telemedicine technology DTMS with a 24 hour individualized support for the patients with diabetes in its management. She is also part of the virtual covid IP care established at the centre at the time of covid.

Dr.Anand Pillai
Dr.Anand is a faculty at the Global Institute of Public Health and is involved in public health research and the Master of Public Health program at GIPH. He also has a public health awareness initiative for cardiac diseases, lifestyle disorders and other topics of public health relevance through "The Heart Channel" social media platform.

Dr.Nanditha Arun (Dr.A.Ramachandran’s Hospital, Chennai) bagged the JPEF P.Kesavadev Young Researcher Award for diabetes worth Rs. 1 lakh. Her original research on ’mhealth in diabetes’ won her the award.
Best original research award - 2019
Dr.Parameswaran Ramakrishnan, M.Sc, Ph.D. (Cleveland Clinic, USA) won first prize for the best original research titled ‘Novel Molecular Target and Therapeutics for Autoimmune Diabetes’.
Best poster award - 2019
Dr.Sijo Jose (Sree Gokulam Medical College, Trivandrum) won the best poster award for his research titled ‘Prevalence and clinical profile of hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state in diabetic patients visiting emergency room in a tertiary care hospital’.
Young Researcher Award for Diabetes - 2018
Dr. Anjana Ranjit Mohan was awarded the JPEF P.Kesavadev Young Researcher Award for diabetes worth Rs. 1 lakh for her study entitled “Coexistence of Cardiometabolic Risk Factors Among Asian Indians – The Indian Council of Medical Research-India Diabetes Study (ICMR INDIAB study)”.
JPEF Stalwart Physician Award -2018
JPEF Stalwart Physician Award’ for the year 2018 was conferred to Dr. Arumugam Muruganathan (Governor of American College of Physicians-India Chapter) in recognition of his contributions to the science and society.
Young Researcher Award for Diabetes - 2017
Dr.Riddhi Das Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Christian Medical College, received the JPEF P.Kesavadev Young Researcher Award for diabetes worth Rs. 1 lakh for his original research titled, 'Do insulin resistance, glucagon secretion and ectopic fat distribution contribute to metabolic dysregulation in patients with Fibrocalcific Pancreatic Diabetes (FCPD)? – an Euglycemic-Hyperinsulinemic Pancreatic Clamp based comprehensive metabolic study from South India.'
